Enhancing Urban Value Through Solving Social Challenges

In 2020, Mitsubishi Corporation signed an MOU with Sinarmas Land for a joint initiative to improve the urban value of BSD City. As the urban manager for a 6,000-hectare area, we are exploring the introduction of various services. To further enhance the quality of life and convenience for residents, the collaboration of startups is essential. We are looking for solutions to address the following six key challenges, each rooted in addressing social issues in BSD City.

[The Six Key Challenges facing BSD City]

Walkability: There is a lack of pedestrian-friendly spaces in BSD City, making it crucial to improve connectivity and create more walkable areas wihtin the city.

Mobility: Indonesia’s urban design has been centered around cars, which limits transportation options. Providing better alternatives to cars for efficient, sustainable mobility is essential.

Entertainment: BSD City lacks major tourist attractions and entertainment options. Creating unique, engaging destinations could help make BSD City a more vibrant place to live and visit.

Well-being: Access to early detection and treatment for illnesses is limited, and there’s a clear need for improvements to health services and quality of life for all residents.

Carbon Neutrality: Regulations make it difficult to adopt renewable energy sources, and the city still relies on fossil fuels for power. We need clear strategies to align with Indonesia’s goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.

Digital Transformation: Existing services are not integrated, necessitating advancements in citywide smart systems and ensure all services work seamlessly together.

We look forward to innovative solutions from startups to help address these challenges and contribute to making BSD City a future-ready smart city.

BSD City as a Testing Ground for New Ideas

Located with excellent access to Jakarta's city center and known as a new town where Indonesia's top 15% wealthiest population resides, BSD City is being developed in three phases through a well-planned approach.

Phase 1 and Phase 2: These phases are complete, with around 500,000 residents and visitors. New services and technologies can be tested and implemented in a real-life environment, reflecting the needs of residents.

Phase 3: Currently under development, Phase 3 offers the unique opportunity to design and introduce infrastructure and services from scratch. This allows for the creation of innovative projects without being constrained by existing frameworks, establishing a model for future cities.

With such diverse opportunities, BSD City serves as an ideal platform for proof-of-concept testing and pioneering next-generation urban development through new technologies and services.
